Heron process

This image illustrates the gradual stages of inking up a print.
1. White areas are cut away and greys are laid down and built up to create the clouds.
2. Prussian blue is laid down to define the clouds and an extended layer in the foreground for water. The background is completed and the ochre ink wiped to create reflection.
3-5. The grey tones of the heron are built up.
6. The reeds are finally added to the foreground.

This was all achieved using one block of Lino.
Printed on Somerset Velvet 250g paper using oil-based inks.
